In “Doug Mastriano brings gubernatorial campaign to Westmoreland County” (Aug. 12, TribLIVE), the reporter grumbles at the Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate’s refusal to make himself available for interviews. This is part of a growing nationwide boycott among some in the GOP in response to biased coverage by left-leaning news organizations.

With alternative online outlets providing conservatives unfiltered access to target audiences, why should those running for office subject themselves to often hostile interrogations by leftist reporters?

I believe opinionated journalists who traffic in innuendo and half-truths, while routinely displaying outright antagonism toward Republicans, are largely responsible for where traditional mainstream media finds itself today — increasingly inconsequential in the political discourse to a growing segment of the electorate.

Readership is down, TV networks are losing viewers and local newspapers are closing at an alarming rate. As long as reporters continue to traffic in condescending, self-righteous wokeness over objectivity, thereby alienating at least half their potential audience, they have only themselves to blame for their own irrelevance.
