Letter to the editor: Military discount policy doesn’t work for all vets

The heavily reported new Home Depot “veteran discount” policy actually excludes veterans from using the discount, rather than making it easier to use. Online registration for the discount is fairly easy, at home, on a computer. But trying to use the discount at the store is not possible for veterans without access to, or owning, a newer cellphone. Also, a timed code that is given online expires even before getting to the store to use it.

I passed this negative feedback along to local store management and Home Depot corporate headquarters, and they did not seem to care. So much for their false advertising about caring for (all) veterans.

For many years, the simple presentation of a military ID card at Home Depot has worked easily and efficiently to obtain a discount.
