Over a 20-year period, the greenhouse gas methane will rise in potency 87 times as compared with carbon dioxide. Both the state and federal governments are considering methane leakage pollution standards that could reduce potential methane pollution 65% by 2025.
For this to become effective, both D.C. and Harrisburg governments must require gas-drilling techniques and technologies that are effective enough to protect Pennsylvania from experiencing the worst effects of climate change.
In addition, requirements for gas companies to constantly monitor methane leakage from every facet of the gas industry could result in job creation, thereby supporting the state’s economy.
Finalizing strong air pollution standards for methane leakage will be able to modernize the gas industry and mitigate the worst effects of climate change. Both the state and federal governments are to be thanked.
