While I sympathize with the municipality of Monroeville, I don’t believe that the mayor or anyone else involved in local government should be sending letters and “expressing extreme concern” regarding the closure of the convention center (“Monroeville officials: Hobby Lobby welcome, just not at convention center,” Feb. 15, TribLive). If officials are so concerned, they could have purchased/leased the convention center and run it themselves.

It is difficult to believe that not one elected official was aware Oxford Development no longer wanted to be involved in the operation of the event center. Instead of asking to find a “great location” for a Hobby Lobby store, maybe they could find one for another convention center. I have enjoyed attending events at the convention center but would go elsewhere to attend them, and I think that others would do the same.
