With barely a month before show time, local residents are only now being informed of the Mountain View Amphitheater’s opening (“New outdoor concert venue in Harmar set to hold 1st act next month,” Aug. 8, TribLIVE). Funny, I never heard it was even being planned.

It is an open-air venue in a grassy area near the Pennsylvania Turnpike touted as being able to handle 1,000 to 5,000 people. Sounds good, right? But what we have out here is a road system from the 1800s. An old rural country farm road with a traffic light at Route 910 is going to handle 2,000 to 3,000 vehicles? Remember Woodstock? This is surely a recipe for disaster.

What about the vacant grassy areas at the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills mall, with ample room for parking, a highway system in place with unimpeded access to Route 28, and plenty of shopping and restaurants?

What is Harmar Township Supervisor Bob Exler thinking? Move it to the mall for safety, environmental, health and emergency reasons.
