Being new to the Murrysville area, I was surprised to see the Black Lives Matter march organized by Aryanna Hunter that shut down Old William Penn Highway on June 14 (“More than 100 turn out for Murrysville Black Lives Matter support walk,” June 14, TribLIVE).

It is unfortunate, indeed, when people, white, black, whomever, die as a consequence of police action. Quite often, tragedies occur when people engage in unlawful activities that necessitate police involvement.

However, the Murrysville Police Department has received numerous accolades during the past few years, particularly since it received its accreditation status through the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission. I am not aware of any alleged civil rights violations having been committed by the Murrysville Police Department.

I hope that the recent demonstration decrying the terrible death that occurred in Minnesota doesn’t reflect negatively on the efforts and professionalism displayed by the devoted men and women who protect the residents of Murrysville.
