In response to the article “Murrysville OKs 4-way stop at School Road, North Hills Road” (March 7, TribLive): I urge our magistrate to suspend the driving privileges of Councilman Darren Miller until it can be proven that he does not pose a public safety risk while driving.
It was reported that driving through the intersection at North Hills Road and School Road “can cause (him) some heart palpitations,” a potentially serious medical condition which could lead to cardiac impairment while driving. I have driven through that intersection hundreds of times, never experiencing anxiety or stress.
The zealousness of Miller and council to vote on a resolution to put in a four-way stop indicates to me a lack of understanding of the issues causing accidents. Putting stop signs at the bottom of the long hills coming each direction on School Road is ludicrous. I can’t wait for the backup when the school buses let out and must stop at the bottom. Or the added delay when emergency, police and fire vehicles are dispatched. Or rear-end accidents occur because the downhill slopes are not conducive to slamming on the brakes at the bottom.
Issues causing accidents at that intersection are simple. Trees, telephone poles and landscaping block the view of those crossing School Road. And there is only a tiny sign informing drivers that cross traffic does not stop.
Council should come up with sound remedies rather than emotional ones because someone on council experiences excess anxiety while driving.
