Letter to the editor: Musk hasn’t ‘taken over’; he is an advisor

I would like to clarify Elon Musk’s position within the Trump administration. Our government has not been “taken over” by this man, as many on the radical far left have suggested. He is a governmental adviser in which he recommends/informs the various cabinet secretaries of his findings. At that time, the elected cabinet secretaries are the individuals who institute changes. They are the ones who hire, lay off and/or fire.

Our country is $36 trillion in debt. In order to avoid bankruptcy, cuts need to be made. DOGE has uncovered much waste, fraud and excessive spending within numerous government programs. It is from here that each elected cabinet secretary looks within his/her department and makes cuts. In my opinion, these are based on duplication of job assignments and often performance evaluations (merit) and not DEI; jobs are not cut that would affect outcomes. Programs such as Social Security, USPS or Medicare are not to be touched.

We should be ever so grateful to this non-American born citizen who has chosen to donate his time away from his company to help get our country out of debt.
