Pitt football coach Pat Narduzzi would have been better served by simply demurring on the assault charges against Dayon Hayes for attacking a woman by whom he had a child. Instead, Narduzzi vaguely let on about the Pitt football team oddly presuming its teammate to be guilty from the jump and that Hayes’ punishment would be spending time with some strength coach, presumably and ironically to increase the physical menace that he exudes when off the football field (“Pitt football player pleads guilty to reduced charge of harassment,” Nov. 22, TribLIVE).

A more responsible approach from the football coach would instead discuss the focus on getting Hayes enrolled in much-needed exercises involving anger management and possibly arranging schooling on how to behave while engaged in domestic relations. As it stands, not much stands in the way of Hayes next time possibly pouring bleach on someone or violently striking another because of his obvious inability to temper his internal rage.
