Letter to the editor: Natural gas a win for Pa.
The natural gas industry is pushing Pennsylvania’s economy forward. While the energy sector has always represented a core segment of the commonwealth’s economic pie, in recent years, natural gas has expanded the national and international influence of the state’s role in the global energy market.
A new report found that the industry contributed 123,000 jobs and approximately $25 billion in economic activity in 2022. The report found the average job had a salary of $97,482 — more than 100% above the state’s average wage. These good-paying, family-sustaining jobs are making our communities stronger and infusing money into local schools and businesses.
The industry has also helped to support a wide range of jobs and businesses. This economic domino effect — where one industry leads to the development of another and another — keeps Pennsylvania’s economic life blood pumping. It spurs innovation and opportunity. It helps to keep the commonwealth on the cutting edge of the world energy market.
Our state is once again a global energy leader. We are helping to power our country, playing a critical role in supplying our energy grid.
Our vast natural gas resources are also playing a role in the international economy. Our country hit a record high in gas exports this year. We are helping our allies by providing reliable natural gas and stabilizing the world energy market at the same time.
Natural gas is a win for Pennsylvania — providing economic opportunity and cementing our role as an energy leader.
