While Michelle Henry may only be taking over the attorney general’s seat for the next two years, that isn’t stopping her from kicking into gear and diving into the work ahead. With state Senate confirmation, Henry is ready to pursue her responsibilities as the state’s top law enforcement officer and seek solutions to many pressing problems.
Henry has spent her career serving Pennsylvanians, getting her start in the Westmoreland County district attorney’s office, and serving as first deputy attorney general. Now in the driver’s seat, it will be up to her to choose how she and her team dedicate their time and resources.
It’s clear that Henry knows the problems our state is facing, and she has said that her priorities will include tackling the opioid epidemic and rampant gun violence and protecting children from child abuse, something close to Henry’s past, having served as a child abuse prosecutor.
Given her truncated term, Henry has made it known that she has no interest in getting wrapped up in political strife or legal efforts that waste resources. While the same can’t be said of all her colleagues across the country, some of whom have signed onto numerous lawsuits against tech companies and supported the continued attempts to use law enforcement offices to fight cultural wars. Instead, we expect Henry to be a bellwether on what strong AG leadership looks like.
I have no doubt that Henry has made her commitment to getting work done for the commonwealth, and I’m looking forward to seeing her successes.
