Letter to the editor: New blood needed in East Deer
East Deer Township, for the first time in what has to be like 20 years, actually has some legitimate competition for the at-large seats on the commissioner board. One of the spots is opening up due to one commissioner stepping down after many years of dedicated service. Two of the other spots the incumbents are running for, and we also have three new candidates.
One of the incumbents has been on the board for over 50 years, and the other for 20. Conveniently enough, we get a “newsletter” from the township for the first time in eight years, which definitely feels like propaganda on behalf of those candidates, extolling all of the “accomplishments” the current board has done.
One “accomplishment” was a water line replacement project. Well, on Marion Street, it was only on half of the street, not the entire portion like the newsletter would make you think, and the resurfacing after the replacement was done, in my opinion, in a half-baked manner. I live at the other end of that street and have had potholes that keep growing in front of my driveway that were patched and came back, and nothing has been done about it.
Anthony Taliani has had over 50 years in office, and Rick Stoneburner 20 after being appointed in 2003. Do not give them any more time in office. The “newsletter” is my last straw and should be yours, too. Using township funds for what is essentially a reelection mailer is disgusting.
East Deer residents, do yourselves a favor and get some new blood in there on Election Day.
