Last year, Greater Latrobe School District administrators did what was best for the students. Students had daily time to enrich themselves in different activities in school, get the educational help they needed, and eat lunch in places like the band room, commons and courtyards. Students had an hour of free time a day.
Unfortunately, students only have a half hour of “free time” now, if free time is what you’d call it. We are forced to sit in the cafeteria and aren’t allowed to leave it during lunch. If you’re a student who needs educational help during the school day, you can’t receive it. Clubs have the opportunity to meet only twice a month, and for students involved in multiple clubs (clubs that look good on college resumes), that’s completely unrealistic.
Schools are made to help us grow up, plan our futures and become adults. It’s hard to grow up and become adults if we’re treated like children and prisoners. The school board will meet Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Center for Student Creativity. Please join us to support the Greater Latrobe student body and oppose the new schedule.
