Letter to the editor: New year, same tax hikes
It’s a new year, but clearly nothing has changed as far as the continuation of raising taxes. This year not only has inflation and high energy costs, but add to that the over 30% property tax hike in Westmoreland County, a 3.5% pay raise for our commissioners and 4.7% for White House employees plus another .9% if you don’t live in D.C. On top of that, Pennsylvania politicians in Harrisburg are now among the highest paid in the country.
All these taxes and raises are being paid for by you and me to people who find it almost impossible to balance a damn budget. Seems everyone wants to stick their hands in our pockets, even my local trash collector is in on it, raising our bill without so much as a notice.
You wonder why we have a homeless problems, drug problems, delinquencies, etc.; his is a big contributor. Oh, I almost forgot, now President Biden also wants you and me to pay off someone else’s student loan.
I’m at my breaking point, but it’s a new year, and I think I’m going to vote myself a raise and forgive my loans, and because I’m going to do it without telling anyone like they do, I’ll bet I get both. Right. Happy New Year to me! You should do it too.
