President Trump has been the target of much criticism since he withdrew the United States from the Paris climate accords after taking office. It’s worth noting, however, that “Paris” itself has also more or less withdrawn from the accords.
Parisian “yellow vest” protesters and 282,000 French citizens in general began violently rioting in parts of Paris and other cities four months ago to express their dissatisfaction with French President Emmanuel Macron’s gas tax hike — a key element of the accords — which was intended to reduce carbon emissions and combat “climate change.”
Macron cancelled the gas tax in an attempt to calm the riots — in effect a “withdrawal” from the Paris accords, but the protests against his policies, such as high taxes and allowing more immigrants into France, continue.
Macron also seems to relish every opportunity he can find when giving speeches, at the UN for example, to make rather snarky comments about Trump and his policies. It’s worth noting that Macron’s approval rating among his countrymen, at 32 percent in a recent poll, is much lower than Trump’s approval rating with U.S. voters. As the saying goes — people living in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones, Monsieur Macron!
