Letter to the editor: No apology for voting against Trump
Republican president Abraham Lincoln implored Americans to act “with malice toward none, but charity for all.” Now along comes Eric Kocian and his inflammatory letter “Trump, supporters energized” (Nov. 13, TribLIVE). Mr. Kocian, “true Americans” shouldn’t be such spoil-sports, sore losers and partisan crybabies.
Kocian writes that “Democrats hijacked Americans’ faith in the democratic process. Their actions gave credence to Trump’s claims of corruption and fraud made months beforehand.” This is a lie. Republicans would not have done so remarkably well down-ballot as they did if there was so much as a glimmer of a “rigged” election.
Trump continues to brag that “he” has built more than 400 miles of border wall, and Mexico is paying. Government records show while about 380 miles of existing wall or barriers have been repaired or replaced, the length of new wall in existence is a paltry 25 miles long after four years and untold billions of taxpayer dollars spent.
Trump claims he has a new, better health care plan “ready to go.” What happened with that?
Trump promised the coronavirus would disappear the day after the election? Did it?
Trump lost because a majority of Americans were sick of his incoherent foreign policy. Joe Biden supporters believe our allies should be treated with gratitude and respect. Democrats realize Trump’s misguided tariffs are paid for by the American consumer.
Should I apologize to people like Kocian because I voted against Trump’s propaganda, self-serving vanity, incompetence, moral vacuity, addiction to self-inflating bluster and ignorance? No, I reckon not.
