Letter to the editor: No honor to oaths of office
An oath is a solemn promise, usually sworn by an elected or appointed official, while raising their right hand up to God. At one time, I was a sworn officer. I took an oath to protect and defend people as well as to uphold the law. If I dishonored that oath, I would be discharged and possibly be arrested and prosecuted. There were very real consequences. I took that oath seriously.
An elected politician takes an oath to preserve, protect and defend the United States Constitution. In today’s society, politicians are sworn in on the day they are installed in office. They take an oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America. But we really do not see that happening.
The borders are practically wide open, with undocumented people pouring in and being handed all kinds of “benefits” at the taxpayer’s expense. Liberals are even pushing to allow for these non-citizens to have the right to vote in some elections and even to carry firearms. A judge just ruled in favor of that particular “right” for an illegal immigrant, a non-citizen.
So, where is their honor to their oaths of office? The answer is that without consequences, there can be no honor. Without honor, there can be no justice. Without justice, there is no rule of law. Without rule of law, there is no peace.
