Letter to the editor: No Kings ralliers love their country
I have to chuckle as I read that House Speaker Mike Johnson has declared the No Kings rallies being planned across the country this weekend are actually “Hate America” rallies. This man has children; if he has had to correct them and tried to alter their behavior, does that mean he “hates” them? I would posit the majority of those who will participate in these marches love their country and would like to change some of the outrageous things that have been happening in the name of the United States of America.
I am watching in horror as fishing boats off the coast of Venezuela are being blown to bits, people who have lived and worked in this country for years are inhumanely treated and carted off to what are basically concentration camps and National Guard troops are invading our cities. I love my country but I desperately want it to be better.
The president thinks he can “rule” with immunity, ignoring the American traditions of peaceful protest and free speech. This man has presented us with no choice but to protest — we have a cabinet composed of people with no expertise in their fields, people losing their medical coverage and young families who cannot afford groceries. All the while the president and the royal family are making billions through bitcoin ventures and other various scams. It’s time to stand up and resist this slide into not just authoritarianism but absurdity.
I really think that we’ll see a lot more love than hate at the No Kings rallies!
