Letter to the editor: Nonprofits need to step up to help Pittsburgh

There are several nonprofits that have not stepped up to donate to the city of Pittsburgh emergency vehicles (“UPMC gives $10M to Pittsburgh for ambulances, freeing up money for snowplows,” Jan. 29, TribLive). Examples would be new protective gear and tools for the fire department. The Public Works department, I believe, needs additional equipment at this time.

As one writer previously wrote, maybe the best way is to put them all back on the tax rolls, except UPMC and PNC Foundation, who have stepped up graciously. Where is Allegheny General Hospital, Carnegie Mellon University, Duquesne University and the University of Pittsburgh, to name a few? And what about other foundations in the city? It’s time to step up. Please donate now.
