After reading about plans the Norwin School District has for a new football stadium, I had to write expressing my feelings on this topic (“Norwin’s $25M stadium renovation project panned by critics,” April 21, TribLive).

My wife and I moved here five years ago from New Jersey to be close to our grandchildren. I am a former professional baseball player who worked as a major league scout for over 30 years. I have seen athletic facilities from one end of this country to the other. When I first moved here, I duly noted the Norwin football stadium was one of the finest facilities I had ever seen at the high school level. To me, the suggestion the school district needs to spend $25 million to update this facility is ridiculous.

Indicative of the fine facility the Norwin football stadium is: The PIAA selected it this past fall for multiple high-profile state playoff championship games — the Central Catholic game held in December 2024 at Norwin had close to 10,000 fans.

Norwin has one of the finest high school stadiums in the country. I can give you this guarantee: 100% of the high schools in New Jersey would gladly trade their football stadium and the attached facilities for what Norwin currently has for their students.
