I work part time as a home health aide. Yes, there are aides that use the job as an easy paycheck. There are also employees like me who go above and beyond.

For instance last year, a new client of mine was in the emergency room and my shift was canceled. I knew she had no family close by and was probably scared. I went to the emergency room to be with her until she got a room. I didn’t have to and I didn’t get paid for it. I work for From the Heart. They care about their clients and their employees.

Please don’t paint the industry with such a broad brush. It’s not fair to the higher caliber workers, and it causes the elderly to not seek out the readily available assistance they are entitled to.

By the way, that client was released. She just turned 93 and is still doing well, in her own home.
