Dear Pirates owners Bob Nutting and family,

I appeal to your responsibilities as Pirates owners to focus your management decisions on producing the best baseball team possible. I know this may conflict with your need to increase shareholder value and personal income, but you have a greater responsibility: to produce a winning team and to serve this great city and its baseball fans.

There is much recent talk about you trading some existing players who have come to be loved and appreciated and some who aren’t. Whatever you do, please think first of the team, this great city and especially us fans. One’s legacy will be judged not by how much wealth he amasses, but by what he gives back to the community.
