During a recent interview, the Rev. James Altman, a Catholic priest, opined, “If you are Catholic, you cannot vote for a Democrat.”

His statement, guided by knowledge of sacred Scripture written by the Catholic Church, is a challenge to all Catholics.

As a Navy veteran, I am loyal to my country and our Constitution and firmly believe in religious freedom and the separation of church and state. However, as a devout Catholic, I cannot be an accomplice to laws that are in direct violation of God’s law and the laws of decency and morality by supporting those who write, pass and condone such laws.

Any reasonable adult must realize that a fetus at any age is a human life; thou shalt not kill. God himself instituted the sacrament of matrimony, the relationship between a man and a woman for the primary purpose of procreation. Same-sex relationships may be legal, but they are in defiance of God’s law.

These examples only scratch the surface. The salvation of one’s soul should take precedence over anything else. In my opinion, what Democrats have in store for the future of the country if they remain in power will only be bearable by those who have a deep faith and trust in God.
