Letter to the editor: Opinions on Democrats' values
I think letter-writer Diana Steck (“What it means to be a Democrat,” Aug. 30, TribLIVE) needs a reality check. Here are my opinions on her points:
1. Protecting voting rights: Resist legitimizing IDs, support mail-in voting that will lead to voter fraud.
2. Ensuring health, safety and affordable health care: Adore the Affordable Care Act, which was insurance reform, not health care, increased costs, taxed the healthy and young, expanded only Medicaid.
3. Providing quality, affordable education: Don’t want choice, only in abortion; receive huge teacher union campaign funding; cost rises every year. Public schools don’t deliver proficient students in math, science or history, contradicting actual American history.
4. Fighting for economic fairness: Have destroyed the working class with excessive taxes and regulations, weakening employment.
5. Protecting our values, peace building, protecting democracy and safeguarding minorities: political correctness rampant, taking down statues, disrespecting flag and anthem, religious rights, Second Amendment and free speech under attack, racism.
6. Combating climate change, building a clean energy economy and securing environmental justice: $10/gallon or no gas, no coal, oil or inexpensive utility cost; no airplanes, cars, trucks; insanity.
7. Raising incomes and restoring economic security for all, not just the wealthiest Americans: Untrue until Trump did from 2016-20.
8. Supporting our troops and protecting our veterans: Trump fixed both.
9. Demonstrating principled leadership: anti-police, Syria redline, Benghazi, Iran nukes, Ukraine corruption, Trump spying and treason, IRS and vet scandals, attorney general contempt of Congress.
10. Promoting responsible gun ownership: Want seizures contrary to Second Amendment.
