Letter to the editor: Opposition to drop boxes valid
State Rep. Josh Siegel recently said, “We need to vigorously defend access to drop boxes. Opposition to drop boxes is one of the most unfortunate, pernicious aspects of the increasing efforts to undermine the integrity of our elections.”
How so? How in the world can this statement not be seen as anything but completely illogical? When politicians say something like this that is so completely antithetical to sound reason, how can we unenlightened non-elite types think that anything they say has any value whatever?
Why, then, have ballot drop boxes been discontinued in many other democratic countries? (Not totally — some countries use them in a limited fashion to accommodate citizens living abroad, among other reasons. This does not change the point being made here.)
The widespread use of mail-in votes makes it easier to cheat. Statements like Siegel made make people (like me) wonder what his point really is. What is he selling?
