Letter to the editor: Our leaders should focus on drug problems, not deer season

I would like to call out some of our local politicians here in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania communities are being overtaken with illegal drugs, particularly opioids. I’m sure everyone reading this knows someone or has been affected by an opioid overdose. The overdose death rate in some of these communities is almost two times that of the national average.

But instead of combating this, some of our local legislators prefer to focus on the opening day of deer season. Yes, deer season! In particular, Rep. Brian Smith and Sen. Lisa Boscola. Where is your concern for these communities being ravaged by the illegal drug problem and the people affected?

If you have legitimate concerns for struggling small businesses, how about introducing a tax-reduction bill? I certainly bet this type of measure will benefit them more than moving the opening day of deer season back to Monday.

I encourage you to contact your local legislators. Politely ask if they can be more concerned with the real issues affecting constituents. Listen to the facts, not hearsay. Stop meddling in Pennsylvania Game Commission business, of which politicians have no place anyways.
