No group I have encountered has been more generous than Jews. This is a deep part of Jewish culture. So I have long been mystified at Israel’s treatment of Palestinians, especially in this current war. Benjamin Netanyahu has answered Hamas’ barbaric act of war with a barbaric act of war 10 times greater.

I have slowly concluded that the people running Israel are not really Jews. It is easy to don Jewish raiment but much harder to actually be one. Netanyahu endlessly invokes the memory of the Holocaust, never without desecrating it. He says Jews in Israel are threatened with a new genocide.

But no Palestinian organization has ever had the ability to carry that out. The only country in the Middle East capable of that is Israel itself. It is as if Netanyahu believes that the crime of the Holocaust gives him a moral exemption for committing crimes of his own — just as Hitler believed that the treatment of Germany after World War I gave him a moral free pass for his crimes. Netanyahu and his radical allies believe that Palestine (from the river to the sea and more) was given them by the God of the Jews — even if not by the Christian God or by Allah of the Muslims.

The rest of the world knows this. A rage is deepening throughout the Islamic world, one directed at Israel and at us. The Biden administration’s full support of Israel in this war will prove a disaster for our country.
