In a recent letter, Simon P. Solar warned of the dangerous Gov. Ron DeSantis who deviated from CDC guidance on covid-19 (“DeSantis endangering lives,” July 11, TribLIVE). Apparently, Solar is unaware that the vast majority of the people fleeing to a thriving Florida from blue states don’t agree.
While DeSantis protected seniors in nursing homes, our crack Harrisburg leadership team moved covid patients from hospitals back to nursing homes. Gov. Tom Wolf and his leadership team, including Lt. Gov. John Fetterman and Attorney General Josh Shapiro, repeatedly proved to be amateurs in dealing with the covid crisis.
Pennsylvania schools and restaurants were shut down without adequate notice. Businesses were shut down on what appeared to be a random basis or based on undisclosed political connections. Many of these businesses and restaurants closed permanently.
Even before the pandemic, Wolf and Shapiro supported Pennsylvania cities and counties that declared themselves “sanctuaries” and worked against federal immigration officials who were trying to rid our communities of dangerous illegal immigrant criminals.
Fetterman, with the support of Wolf, focused his time in office on working to legalize recreational marijuana and reducing prison time for convicted drug dealers.
So, is DeSantis the dangerous governor? Yes, it appears he is dangerous, but only to the Democratic Party that sorely lacks candidates with successful records of accomplishment. DeSantis has set himself apart as an effective leader, while Pennsylvania continues to decline in many ways under our feckless leadership team.
