How comforted would Pennsylvanians be to know that the individual who is responsible for handling tens of billions of dollars of our money is a bald-faced liar?

That is regrettably what we face in state Treasurer Stacy Gerrity. She appeared at a rally which was ostensibly to promote the U.S. Senate candidacy of carpetbagger Dr. Mehmet Oz, but which was in reality a rally for the guest of honor, Donald Trump.

Gerrity stated with a straight face in renewing the 2020 election crackpot conspiracy theory, “We know that he (Trump) won.”

If “we” means the Trump disciples who believe anything that emanates from his mouth, she is right. That seems to be what Trump’s people believe. For those of us who live in the real world, in which Republican officials and Republican-dominated courts have forcefully stated that there was no significant demonstrated level of fraud which would have changed the result of the election, the truth is our guide.

It is troubling that our state treasurer would promote a lie which endangers belief in the fairness of our system of elections and in our very democracy. Shame.
