Is it a coincidence that all three letter-writers critical of the sale of the parklet on South Pennsylvania Avenue in Greensburg are all registered Democrats (“Questions about Greensburg parklet sale,” Oct. 12, TribLIVE; “Parklet sale slap in face to those who worked to create it,” Oct. 20, TribLIVE; “Transparency lacking on Greensburg parklet sale,” Oct. 27, TribLIVE)? Could this all be because Sen. Kim Ward is a conservative Republican majority leader and the parklet owners share her last name?

Unfortunately, politics has infected every aspect of our life. Now that the parklet is in private hands, the City of Greensburg, Westmoreland County, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the federal government are all now getting paid taxes.

I would ask those questioning the changes to take a look at the big picture and the positive changes happening downtown. Greensburg is on the verge of a renaissance, and this is just part of that renewal. The overwhelming reelection of council members Donnie Zappone and Gregory Mertz illustrate that city voters approve of the direction of the city.

I appreciate the work of people in the past to make the parklet happen, but it’s now time to look to the future and give this a chance to work without political considerations.
