Letter to the editor: Paying our fair share

Every time I open the newspaper, I see two comments:

First, I am not paying my “fair share” of my money to the government, and the government is going to make greedy corporations pay more taxes, not the average citizen. To the first point, what gives the government the right to decide what is the fair share of my hard-earned money? That is for me to decide and be ultimately judged for.

Second, can anyone argue with me that corporations will not take one penny of any additional taxes charged to them from their profits, but we the people who buy their goods will not just pay the additional taxes imposed on them, and also the mark-ups incurred all along the supply chain?

The old saying, “There is no such thing as a free lunch,” is still true today.
