The writer of the letter Wian right pick for register of wills” (April 11, TribLive) insinuates that Katie Pecarchik was complicit in political maneuvering by the court-appointed conservator, and/or was entangled in the office’s troubled history. In actuality, Pecarchik cleaned up the years-long backlog left by Sherry Hamilton.

Does the writer of what I consider an ill-informed letter have any idea how mismanaged the office was when Pecarchik assumed the role? Partisan politics did not enter the minds of Westmoreland County families and their attorneys when their child’s adoption or their parent’s estate was finalized after years of mismanagement. Her experience and outstanding work ethic allowed the office of wills to run smoothly again.

If Jon Wian is qualified, as the writer states, he should publicly debate Pecarchik. I have no doubt such a debate would support the obvious, that Pecarchik is more qualified to be register of wills, a very important, nonpartisan job.
