Letter to the editor: Pharmaceutical companies should put humans first

Ever notice that during almost every commercial break on TV, at least one commercial is for a pharmaceutical company’s drug, a drug that only can be provided via a doctors’ prescription? Instead of trying to convince us to talk our doctors into prescribing a drug we think may help us, let the doctors make those decisions.

Here is a novel idea: The CDC should take charge and prohibit pharmaceutical companies from advertising prescription drugs on TV. Use that money for development of cures for cancer, etc. At this time, rather than all the pharmaceutical companies each working to find “their” vaccine for covid-19, why can’t the CDC take control and have all the drug companies work in partnership to get a vaccine much quicker?

Forget patents and proprietary information. We have the potential to save mankind. Isn’t that more important than potential profits?
