As a lifelong Republican, I’m calling on voters to ignore the party line in regards to the Westmoreland County district attorney race.

Nicole Ziccarelli’s qualifications indicate that she is a sole practitioner, focusing on divorce and family law. She hosted a cooking and baking blog and worked as an intern in the Allegheny County D.A.’s office while a law student.

John Peck has served as DA for decades, rising through the ranks. He successfully has prosecuted the most dangerous criminals in our county, including Lesko and Travaglia, the Greensburg Six and the killers of police officers Brian Shaw of New Kensington and Derek Kotecki of Lower Burrell. He vigorously prosecuted drug dealers and used their forfeited assets to purchase police vehicles, police dogs and hardware, ensuring that the men and women in blue are better equipped to serve. Under Peck’s supervision, his office has prosecuted hundreds of homicides and thousands of other serious felonies.

Please check both candidates’ records before voting. If I need a recipe for fluffy cupcakes, I’ll go to Ziccarelli. If I need a DA to keep my family and community safe, I’ll go to Peck.
