I do not understand why reporter Julia Burdelski is so concerned about increased levels of taxation faced by Pittsburgh property owners (“Tax trifecta: Pittsburgh property owners take it on the chin,” Dec. 22, TribLive). The vast majority of Pittsburgh property owners either vote Democrat or do not vote. As a result, they are getting what they deserve in terms of taxation.

Records show that while the population of the school district has declined substantially over the past decade, the district budget (after adjusting for inflation) has gone up. This is apparently what the taxpayers in the city want. They keep voting for it.

If they wanted good schools and efficient, well run city government, they would vote for it. But they don’t vote for those things. They vote for high taxes. They are getting what they want.
