Letter to the editor: Pittsburgh, the most 'givable' city
With the holidays upon us, it’s that time of year where the sharing and caring seem to come out of our bodies and warm the heart. There must be something to the saying, “Home is where the heart is.”
Seeing the people of Pittsburgh rallying by giving to local food banks so no one is left hungry and witnessing the volunteers serving on Thanksgiving at Light of Life Rescue Mission and City Mission warms my heart.
With local businesses, schools and communities donating to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, along with local Volunteers of America popup food pantries, hopefully everyone will have a full belly during the holidays.
Project Bundle Up is celebrating its 40th season to keep the elderly and needy warm this winter.
I have been hearing the bells ringing from the Salvation Army collections at stores. Seeing local churches come together, like the Allegheny Valley Association of Churches, collecting food for the needy, reassures me that Pittsburgh is “Some Place Special.”
There are so many charities, too many to mention, in the Pittsburgh area that show we are a community that takes care of its own.
This April, our city will be on display when we host the 2026 NFL Draft, and I couldn’t be prouder. In the past we have been honored to receive the title of the “Most Livable City,” but I believe we are also the “Most Givable City” for our size and population.
