Letter to the editor: Plenty of justification for Trump impeachment
Regarding the op-ed “The impeachment to end them all” (Sept. 30, TribLIVE): While the “where there’s smoke there’s fire” justification for the President Biden inquiry has some merit, May Mailman’s completely inaccurate representation of the facts of the President Trump impeachment does not.
The “untrustworthy” accusations were shown to be correct in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report, which documented at least 140 contacts between Trump and others in his campaign, and, while there was no “provable” collusion, Mueller did not exonerate Trump, despite Republican claims that he did.
The barrage of lies that followed the report and Trump’s acceptance of Putin’s denial of Russian interference in the election do not so much resemble “smoke,” but an active volcano spewing magma.
