A settlement was reached in April after the U.S. Justice Department sued the Pennsylvania State Police for sex discrimination for giving applicants a physical fitness test that many women could not pass. Under the terms of the agreement, the police have lowered their standards, paid $2.2 million into a compensation fund and prioritized hiring as many as 65 women affected by the prior standards.
I don’t think the judge went far enough. In my opinion, having any standards to become a trooper discriminates against old, fat, out-of-shape individuals.
