Letter to the editor: Political committees have too much power

I’m writing to express my concern with the behavior of local political committees during this primary season. Instead of focusing on endorsing the most qualified, community-minded candidates, these committees seem more interested in protecting their own influence and engaging in political favoritism.

It’s frustrating to watch strong, principled candidates be passed over not because they lack experience or dedication but because they won’t play along with backroom politics. The voters of Murrysville deserve leadership based on merit, not loyalty to a political inner circle.

The hypocrisy is glaring. These committees claim to represent the people, yet they issue endorsements through proxy voting, distribute slate cards and push propaganda literature — all before voters have had the chance to hear from every candidate. This is manipulation, not democracy.

Even more concerning is the practice of endorsing during the primary, a process specifically meant to give voters — not party insiders — the power to choose. When committees interfere before the public weighs in, they undermine fair competition and suppress independent voices.

It’s time to ask: Who are these committees really serving? And how long will we tolerate king-making over representation?

That’s why I’m supporting Jamie Lingg for Murrysville Council. Lingg protects our tax dollars, defends property rights and refuses to play political games. She’s running for the people, not the politics. She is listed first on the ballot under Council, Municipality of Murrysville.

Freedom means having the right to choose, not being told who to vote for.

Let’s bring integrity back to our local elections.
