Regarding the faux outrage and divisive editorial cartoon “Mallard Fillmore” in the Tribune-Review: I would like to comment on the Jan. 3 cartoon decrying the mainstream media’s potential failure to cover violence against law enforcement.

I will start by saying I pray for the families and mourn the loss of life of every police officer killed in the line of duty.

Instead of vilifying the MSM, I am writing to applaud their coverage of the Jan. 6, 2021, violent assault on the U.S. Capitol, democracy and the Capitol Police. These officers of the law fought valiantly for over three hours defending our U.S. senators and representatives who were meeting to peacefully enable the transfer of power after a free and fair election on Nov. 3.

At least 140 police officers were injured, and five people died in the attempt to change the election results by a violent mob of Trump supporters.

Perhaps this editorial cartoonist should support law enforcement by suggesting they follow the advice of scientists to get vaccinated and wear masks to prevent loss of life. The number who have died because of a failure to get immunization during a global pandemic is very troubling and larger than those killed or injured in the line of duty.

To summarize, I would say that Mallard Fillmore is a very “lame” duck indeed!
