Letter to the editor: Presidents who act like mad men
All this media fuss about whether the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff should have been telling China that President Trump was not going to attack them presumes Trump’s ordering naval maneuvers in the South China Sea was the act of a mad man. Hardly. Such “saber rattling” was a maneuver espoused by Teddy Roosevelt over 100 years ago: “Speak softly, but carry a big stick!”
If we were looking for advice on how to handle a president who acts like a mad man, tell us how we might have prevented President Biden from giving the Taliban that multibillion-dollar gift of military equipment he left when he pulled the troops out of Afghanistan. Impeach him? Accuse him of a criminal act? Have his party rein him in? Ha!
