Regarding the letter “Charles Koch’s plan for public education” (June 3, TribLIVE): I don’t understand the concern for the privatization of public schools. It’s not like our public schools are doing such a great job.

We spend more per student than any other country in the world, and yet 25% of our high school graduates are functionally illiterate, according to educationworld.com. For inner cities, it’s probably much higher than 25%. Statistics from the U.S. Department of Education are similar.

How can this be allowed to continue?

When you look at the lousy results (poor standardized test grades, increasing illiteracy) for many of our public school districts across the country, maybe privatization of our public schools is not such a bad idea.
