Letter to the editor: Problems with FOP

Tribune-Review

Regarding the article “Panel says more accountability would make policing safer for communities, officers” (July 12, TribLIVE): It is easy to see the problem. The Fraternal Order of Police, although not mentioned in the article, is most likely responsible for the loopholes and hindering any effort of sincerely “good” police officers, officials and policies to try and restore the trust of residents.

Hopefully, more residents, taxpayers who fund every single aspect of law enforcement, will demand accountability — despite whatever the FOP says or does.

Sadly, the media typically refuses to hold law enforcement as a whole accountable for anything.

From the article, quoting Penn State Dickinson Law professor Raff Donelson: “… each chief kinda has to balance this desire for complying with the law versus the various reasons for not wanting to comply with the law.”

The arrogance is astounding anymore. Law enforcement gets to choose whether they “desire” to comply with the law? No … no, absolutely not.
