Letter to the editor: Providing love, care for rescued animals
Animal hoarding is a complex issue with far-reaching effects that encompass mental health, animal welfare and public safety concerns. I thank you for the recent coverage of the collaborative response to such a situation, “Dozens of dogs, cats removed from Carrick home; most in good condition” (Oct. 13, TribLIVE).
Since their arrival at Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh (HARP), the animals have had medical exams, been given needed vaccinations, spayed or neutered and microchipped as they are prepared for adoption. We are happy to share that those adoptions have begun, with some of the animals already finding their forever homes. Making this possible is our dedicated staff and volunteers, and I thank them for all they do to give animals the care they need and the love they deserve.
Receiving this number of animals at one time can be involved and costly. Even with minimal medical issues, a rescue such as this can challenge resources. You can support HARP’s efforts through donations, whether monetary or with items such as food, blankets and more. In addition, volunteers and foster families are always needed. Visit humaneanimalrescue.org to learn more about HARP and how you can help.
