Letter to the editor: Proving research is not easy

As an old chemistry graduate (a slide rule not computers), I was pleased to read “You cannot ‘restore’ high scientific standards if they are already in place” (July 12, TribLive). Good op-ed, but one major fact was missing — you only disprove a theory using the scientific method; you cannot prove your research is 100% correct.

I see signs to “Trust science” in many yards, usually about climate warming. For example, CO2 causes global warming; maybe, but what else has changed in the atmosphere over the last 80 years? Using the first rule of the scientific method — observation and question — we note that manmade waves have increased thousands of times in the last 70 years. When I was a young lad, the only manmade waves were AM radio waves; now we have remote control everything, WiFi everywhere, FM and TV. Remember, sun comes to the Earth in the form of rays, a wave-type structure. Is there any interaction?

What about the sun? Has its intensity increased? Need to study more options.
