Our Republican leaders have studied and learned the lessons of radicalization from groups such as al-Qaida to their benefit. They have been able to radicalize up to 32% of Americans into believing the presidential election of 2020 was stolen in spite of the fact that Republicans in charge of election reporting and analysis said otherwise (”Jan. 6 panel hears: Trump ‘detached from reality’ in defeat,” June 13, TribLIVE).

This is a remarkable achievement but not yet up to what was done in Germany in the lead-up to World War II. If everyone continues to work harder in this radicalization process, it will still be possible to overthrow the government of the United States in order to replace it with a new fascist authoritarian government. The insurrection of Jan. 6, 2021, was only a first step.

If you have become tired of being in a nation of laws in which every vote can matter, you are ready to be radicalized. Don’t take the possibility lightly!
