Letter to the editor: Realities on which both sides should agree
Your anti-Trump letter-writers most likely get their “facts” from CNN, MSNBC and the New York Times, while your anti-Biden letter writers, from Fox News, NEWSMAX and The Wall Street Journal. If you are confused as to which side to believe, it might make more sense to simply decide if our country was better off after four years of President Trump or after three years of President Biden.
But there are some important things we have learned that both sides might agree on:
1. All media should clearly separate and identify what are actual, reported facts and what are their opinions.
2. To protect against wealthy, lifetime politicians, we need term limits, controlled use of inside stock information and limits on election contributions.
3. The party in power should not be allowed to weaponize government agencies such as the FBI, DOJ and IRS against the opposing party or president.
4. Government whistleblowers should have their jobs protected.
5. Separation of powers among Congress, the president and the Supreme Court should be enforced.
6. Priorities for our federal government should be to strengthen our military, reduce our national debt, enforce our border policy and improve our transportation systems.
7. Voters should provide IDs, and biological males should be excluded from women’s bathrooms and sports.
8. Protesters who violate our laws or injure law enforcement personnel should be punished, and our public universities should not take political or religious sides.
