The editorial “Frozen salaries could be start for Harrisburg cooperation” (Sept. 23, TribLIVE) provided a glimpse of what can be accomplished in our state if both the House and Senate can agree on important issues.
While the Legislature is still warm and fuzzy with each other, this would be a good time to propose a bill to reduce the size of our state government. We are one of two states with a full-time House and Senate. These full-time professional lawmakers receive huge salaries, health insurance, pensions equal to their salaries and many perks with the job.
Pennsylvania does not need all this representation or the burden of taxes we must pay for salaries. Possibly the corruption our state is known for could be curtailed. Possibly the exodus of lifelong residents and younger people searching for good jobs and less taxation could be reduced.
Possibly our state lawmakers could see the importance in the lives of their constituents.
