On Jan. 8, Pennsylvania will host its second annual PA Donor Day, a chance to galvanize our friends and neighbors to rally behind the nearly 7,000 Pennsylvanians who are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant. Why Jan. 8? Because one registered donor has the power to save 8 lives.
My own life has been deeply touched by organ donation. My son Eli was 17 years old and a senior at Highlands High School when he tragically died as a result of a car crash in 2018. Organ donation provided us with hope in our darkest hours. My son gave six people a second chance at life, and now I have a chance to help raise awareness of the importance of being a registered organ donor.
The 2021 PA Donor Day is especially critical as the number of Pennsylvanians registering as organ donors has slowed, with fewer Pennsylvanians going to DMVs because of the pandemic. Thankfully, registration is something all Pennsylvanians can do online at www.DonateLifePA.org.
If you are not registered to be an organ donor, please do so today!
