Thank you to the Tribune-Review and Mark Madden for acknowledging the greatness of Henry “Hammerin’ Hank” Aaron (“Mark Madden’s Hot Take: Hank Aaron was one of sports’ most important figures,” Jan. 23, TribLIVE).

It’s incredible that Aaron maintained his poise in light of almost constant racism. He was superior in many ways: a terrific athlete, an outstanding human being, a role model to millions.

Gratitude also to the two exuberant white teenagers who ran onto the field to celebrate with “Hammerin’ Hank” as he ran the bases with his record-setting home run No. 715 in 1974 and to the thousands of white fans who gave him a deserved standing ovation.
